Students should have a tapestry or frame loom warped at their preferred sett (8 EPI is suggested) and a 5-6” width. Tension is important for best results so a good strong warp such as cotton seine twine (12/9 for 8EPI) is best. A strong wool or linen is fine, too, if that’s what is normally used.

Note: I suggested above that you have a loom warped at five to six inches in width to get started. If you are short on time, you could warp for a narrower width for this first section. If you've already warped, you could work on half the warps for one sample and the other half for another- or simply use the full width.

For the section on Horizontal Blending you will have more blending options with a wider warp (at least five to six inches).

Weft: a fine (ex: 18/2 wool) tapestry yarn that can be bundled (preferred) into various thicknesses and a good range of gradation (light to dark); fibers other than wool are fine, too. Color pack kits are available for $30. Information on ordering will be available March 1st. Please order at least 2 weeks before course begins to assure delivery.

Other materials: Tapestry beater or fork, tape measure, sharpie, scissors; any tools you are accustomed to using such as weaving needles, shed sticks, awl or other tools normally used, sketchbook and/or note-taking materials; (optional) ideas for future tapestries using color blending techniques.
